Old Times

It's now 2014.......a year-and-a-half since Dad passed away. I visited his grave site again yesterday.......all is peaceful there. Dad's site is surrounded by Fort Huachuca grounds with a beautifully serene mountain backdrop of the Huachucas. They are beginning work there on a chapel site. Dad will have a brick in the chapel walkway honoring Amy LeClere (Shirley's daughter that was killed in a terrible Phil Campbell, Alabama tornado April 27, 2011). Dad thought a lot of Amy and was deeply saddened when she was killed. Dad, I remember, so well, when you introduced me to hunting in Montana. You gave me a 22 that had originally belonged to Grandpa (J H) Slater, and, later, you also gave me a single-shot J. C. Higgins shotgun. Remember when I totally blew away my first pheasant (a hen). That was a real blast.......and a-half!! Also, remember the time we were hunting grouse with cousin Bud Gstohl.........Bud shot that great horned owl (the dummy) with his shotgun before we could object. His retriever ran to fetch it and that bird almost tore him apart! That dog was almost ruined for fetching after that foolish stunt. It really shocked both of us as we didn't see it coming. Yesterday I watched an old video that showed you riding Quiz, that Hereford steer that instigated all the cattle to destroy your garden that year. Remember when all the local farmers and folks left us all kinds of produce after hearing of that catastrophe. How I miss those days, and I miss you too, Dad. Love, Jimmy.
